Good afternoon to all my very dainty and delightful readers!
As you all know, I went to the beach this past Friday with a friend and we had a fabulous time. Sitting here now and writing this post, I can recall the times when I would go out into the sun without any protection at all! I must have been insane because the sun here is almost cruel, right? Of course now, thankfully, I know better, so I packed my beach bag with what I call beach-time beauty essentials.
So what are they?
Well, let’s find out!
Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa Malibu Waves Hair Spray – Want to hear something funny? I actually sprayed this on my face thinking it was the sunscreen mist! Shhh! It’s been a while since I went to the beach so perhaps the sun got to me real bad! Ha-ha. I took this along with me to enhance the whole beachy waves look that I wanted to flaunt. It has an amazing creamy, tropical citrus smell. It also has a UV absorber that helps to protect the hair from environmental damage. I already have wavy/curly hair that I always straighten because I hate how unpredictable my waves are. Using this sea salt spray gives me the desired type of waves! I’m sure a lot of us love the look of our hair after a day in the waters of the ocean so when those days are almost impossible to have, I suggest you go to your nearest Bath & Body Works and pick this product up. I suppose it won’t work for all hair types and it definitely depends on the climate you are in as well but give it a try Oh yes, the ONLY thing I do not like is when sprayed on hair with gel or hairspray, it sort of smells awful! When I first bought it and used it, my hair was filled with hairspray and the terrible smell of the two of them mixed together made me vow that I would never use it again but I am glad I broke that little useless vow!
Institut Esthederm Adaptasun Tanning Body Lotion – I have gone through sunscreens like a mad woman over the years but ever since I was introduced to Insitut Esthederm’s range, it stuck on me! This particular product is my favorite. It the ideal product for quick and safe tanning under normal to strong sun. You are supposed to apply it evenly all over your body 20 minutes before sun exposure and then again every 2 hours. What I love about this body milk besides the great protection it offers under the Dubai sun is the incredibly light texture and great smell. Institut Esthederm products are not cheap but I suggest you invest in them, like I do as most of them are sincerely revolutionary including this one! They are available at Boots pharmacies.
Bath & Body Works True Blue Spa Refreshing Sunscreen Mist – With its quick drying skills and light-weight texture, this SPF 30 sunscreen mist is refreshing and cooling. I tend to carry it around with me most of the days as it is very easy to apply. You just have to spray it straight on to your face. After applying my regular sunblock lotion (we’ll get to that soon), this is my go-to mist! Although summer is almost over, I am definitely going to visit B&BW soon so that I can pick up the rest of their summertime products! I’ve been so pleased with the two purchases so far.
Bioderma Photoderm Max Fluid SPF 100– I don’t think this particular product needs any introduction. Bioderma’s sunblocks are probably the most popular ones. I received this in my May Glambox and was so pleased because I am so terrified of my face getting sunburned when I am at the beach or park due to past experiences. This product prevents sun intolerance reactions and combats premature cutaneous ageing. It is colorless, light textured and leaves my skin feeling very soft after application. It is also water-resistant and fragrance-free.
Lancaster Sun Sport Multi-Protection Water+Sweat Resist Easy on Gel SPF 20 – I received this in my April Glambox. I didn’t really use it that particular day but I thought I would carry it along with me in case my friend wanted to use it. It is a water and sweat resist gel with medium UVA/UVB protection that really goes the distance. It dries really fast and non-sticky. It also gets absorbed by the skin pretty instantly. If we did more than just lie down on the sand at the beach, I definitely would have used this! I am currently using another Lancaster product that I received in the same Glambox which is the Tan Maximizer (not pictured here, unfortunately.) You are supposed to apply it generously to the face and body after sun exposure for at least 4 days, to increase your tan. Frankly, both of them are fairly ‘okay’ products and I don’t think I’ll be purchasing the full sized version but I am glad I got he chance to try them both.
The other items in my beach bag included towels, a book that I am currently reading, a bottle of water, hand sanitizer and chapstick!
Have you tried any of the above products? What beauty essentials do you carry with you when you are beach bound?
There’s been so much happening these last few weeks that it has been almost impossible for me to update the ‘My Week in Daintyness’ series! So here’s a compilation of ’em all. Before I get to that – I just want to give a shout out to my soul sistah, Sophia Schuhmann who is currently celebrating her birthday in Vietnam although I really wish she were here! Happy Birthdayy sugahhh. Love you loads! <3
^^You have to pick up a copy of the upcoming a&e issue (November/December) to read this review! 😛 For now, I can only tell you that it is one of the most romantic restaurants in the city!
^^As the assistant editor for the magazine, I get invited to loads of fun events. This was one of them. It included painting the San Fran skyline, popping paint balloons with darts (which I failed miserably at) and of course manicures!
^^This was another fun event! I was given a key at the entrance to find my fragrance which was Noelle! There were also make-over tables, beauticians and gorgeous models!
^^A beautiful event where the guests were entertained by a lovely dance performed by a famous ballerina (Damn. I can’t recall her almost arduous French name.Sowwie!) At first, I wasn’t a fan of the fragrance and I thought it wouldn’t be long-lasting but to my surprise, it indeed was!
While in the store, I couldn’t help but notice this gorgeous embellished tutu! It makes me wish I was a dancer. Beautiful, isn’t it?
^^Here’s what I walked away with from the event. (At a&e, we get pampered good!) Cute ballerina flats, a rose, the fragrance in 80ml, a miniature of the fragrance as well as a hair mist! I’ve been wanting to get my hands on hair fragrances for so long now. I am so glad that I got one eventually. Does anyone know where I can find more hair fragrances? There are a lot of brands that produce them but I can’t seem to find them here. Maybe I am looking in all the wrong places?
^^How many of you guys showed up at this great event? It was incredible. I learned a lot and I will be reviewing the St. Tropez Spray Tan very soon. See that machine in the picture? That’s where I’ll be in my bikini in a week’s time! I am super excited to share the review with you! *fingers crossed* there are no mishaps though! Remember Kramer from that one Seinfeld episode? Eeek!
Anyway, here’s what I walked away with –
^^What do you think of my new shoe steals? I love, love love them! I haven’t worn the tan heels out yet but they are super comfortable. The straps on the black wedges are sorta loose on me. Sadly, they cannot be adjusted which I really hate. It gave me a whole lot of toe blisters when I wore them last Thursday but I am hoping my feet get used to them to a point where they get so numb so that I can wear them ’cause they look so good!
^^One of the highlights of my Thursday! Mmm.Mmm.Mmmmmm. I cannot say more!
^^To celebrate my bestie, Cassie’s birthday, we went to Patiala Restaurant’s Lounge in Souk Al Bahar where we had some amazing signature cocktails and chilli raisins! Here’s the drink I had –
^^White rum infused with cinnamon, lemon, mint, mango & passion fruit puree, masala powder, ginger ale. They have some other amazing drinks like Spiked Chai which is Hibiscus tea with dark rum and Red Bull which is my boyfriend’s fave!
^^I haven’t been to the beach in AGES! I was actually very terrified of going and kept thinking that the sun would scorch me so bad but it was good fun! Thank you Emma! 😛 Before the beach, we had a fun breakfast at Ihop. In the evening, we went to see Malavita at the movies which was a pretty fun film to watch!
^^Another weekend highlight was my visit to TRIBES, Mall of the Emirates where I filled my tummy with some delicious food! Full details and review to be posted soon! It’s one you don’t want to miss – trust me!
